BurdenAceŽ is a hand held laser instrument, which allows shot firers and drillers to safely and quickly measure the rock burdens in front of shot holes (at any point on the rock face) and display the result.
The palm-sized BurdenAceŽ incorporates a class 1 eye-safe pulsed laser and integral inclinometer. A red dot aiming scope allows the operator to aim and measure the range and inclination at passive targets up to 300m (1000ft). 2 x AA cells supply power and the whole unit weights just 1.5lbs (600g). The laser is equipped with an RS232 port for data output to printer, data logger or computer.
To measure a profile the operator simply fires the laser at the crest and toe of the face. The face length, angle, toe distance and bench height are immediately calculated and displayed. Enter the proposed drill angle, crest to collar offset distance and planned burden into the laser, after which individual points on the rock face in front of the hole can be measured.

For each point the actual burden, hole depth and percentage of burden are displayed and printed. Once the profile is finished the printed summary gives maximum and minimum burden values at their corresponding depths down the hole.

An optional hard copy printer is available which connects directly to the BurdenAceŽ. No additional computer or logging device is required!
The whole system can be easily upgraded to a 3D system by the addition of the MDL horizontal angle encoder and monopod or tripod. Software is available for 2D and 3D face profiling as well as stockpile volumetric measurements.
The BurdenAceŽ real-time handheld profiling system is based on MDL's LaserAceŽ 300 handheld laser range finder technology. The MDL BurdenAceŽ is a simple cost-effective tool for calculating rock burden profiles in front of shot holes.

- Simply fire the handheld laser at the crest and toe of the face in front of each hole and the bench height, angle, toe distance and face length are calculated as displayed.
- Enter the proposed drill angle, collar offset and planned burden values.
- Measure each point on the profile and the actual burden and hole depth is displayed for each point.
- Add a thermal printer for optional hard copy
- Update to 3D with a range of accessories and software.
